       Hair transplant myths and reality

Hair Transplant History

After hair transplantation was first described in the 1950s, hair restoration procedures eventually started to focus on smaller and smaller grafts of hair, but in 1995, a single paper revolutionized the field. Dr. Bernstein and Rassman’s “Follicular Transplantation,” was the first medical publication to describe the concept of using follicular units; naturally-occurring groups of 1, 2, 3, or 4 hairs; in performing a hair transplant. Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) was born and the field of hair restoration hasn’t looked back.

There are many misconceptions about surgical hair restoration. Some relate to the procedure itself, but perhaps the most important ones to clear up are those regarding the indications for surgery — in other words, which patients are candidates for this procedure and which patients are not.
